When considering the business industry, going through hurdles was something Mustone had to encounter. Thinking about keeping a business afloat through multiple dips and rises in our economy can be difficult, Mustone describes “Funding and raising capital was the initial challenge in starting out my business. Now, it’s about the shift in retail after COVID-19. There have been ups and downs but it’s all about adapting. We’ve put way more effort into our online community on social media, and elevating our website for e-commerce. We’re also expanding globally, focusing on establishing the brand in top European markets such as Paris and Germany.” We asked more questions about Mustone’s experience as a businesswoman advocating for the sexual well-being and experience of others.
Q: Was it difficult to build a business that focused on sexual wellness? Specifically female (or those with female reproductive parts) based? Was it difficult for you and your business to be taken seriously? What were some roadblocks you faced in the early stages or even now?
Mustone: Building a business in sexual wellness, especially with a focus on female pleasure, definitely had its challenges. Initially, there were some raised eyebrows and misconceptions, but I saw it as an opportunity to break barriers and spark important conversations. One of the main roadblocks was overcoming taboos surrounding the topic. Even now, as sexual wellness reaches the mainstream market, we continue to push boundaries.
Q: Where does the name of the brand come from?
Mustone: It’s a little play on words since cannabis hemp seed oil is involved, of course, but our brand name’s version of getting “high” is more about elevating well-being – from self-
care or self-love to romance with a partner. It’s about taking pleasure from these outlets and being shameless about it. We believe that love should be celebrated in all its forms, including the love we share intimately. Our products don’t contain THC, so there is no high. It’s about taking pleasure from these outlets and being shameless about it. Because why should anyone be?
Q: How do you think we can normalize female pleasure in today’s society? The use of toys and other goodies are becoming more common and normalized in our sexual lives, but how do you think your brand contributes to the overall normalization of including the use of toys in the bedroom?
