BCA Month: Beauty Brands that Give Back!
By: Tahiry Sanchez

The month of October is jam-packed with fantastic activities in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many amazing businesses share the common benefit of involving their organization in such a supportive and educational month.

5 Under 40 was selected as one of Thrive Causemetics’ Breast Cancer Awareness Month-related charitable partners. Thrive Causemetics is hosting an incredible event. The goal of 5 Under 40 is to help under-40-year-old women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or who have a BRCA mutation financially.

Since 2021 Thrive Causemetics has given 2,000 products worth over $50,000 to the organization, and that number will continue to increase this year, especially with more customer purchases during October.

Thrive Causemetics could not be where it stands today without the amazing talent of its CEO Karissa Bodnar, who established in 2015, the vegan direct-to-consumer cosmetics company Thrive Causemetics. Following a friend’s death from a rare kind of cancer, she founded the business. Immune-compromised individuals can use her “clean” cosmetics, along with many more benefits it offers as a makeup line. Karissa Bodnar was a product developer for L’Oreal’s line of high-end skincare and color cosmetics before launching her own business. She apparently controls 70% of Thrive Causemetics, which was forecasting 2020 revenue of $150 million. In 2017, Trinity Ventures oversaw a $5 million fundraising campaign for Thrive Causemetics. Many of the company’s cosmetics are still made by Bodnar herself. Over the course of a weekend in 2018, she independently developed the lip mate formula in her home.

According to Thrive Causemetics, it gives (an unknown sum) to a woman in need for each transaction made, how awesome is that!
